Jay Kranchalk, Middle School Director

Jay Kranchalk (Mr. K) has been at CFA since 2001.  In that time, he has served as a fifth grade teacher, eighth grade algebra teacher, Middle School Dean of Students, and varsity cross country coach.  He is now the Middle School Director.  An avid Pittsburgh Steelers and North Carolina Tar Heels fan, Mr. K is originally from Cleveland, Ohio.  He moved to Wilmington after earning degrees from American University and Marymount University in the Washington, DC area and teaching for five years for Fairfax County schools in VA.  He enjoys going to movies, running and the beach.  He and his wife, Laura, have two children - Dani and Davis, and three dogs.  

 

 

               
Carla Whitwell, Middle School Dean  

Carla Whitwell is the Associate Director of Admission, Learning Skills Program Coordinator, and Middle School Dean. She is a graduate of Roanoke College and has worked in education since 1993.  She has been at CFA since 1999 working in many areas including Middle School administration, the College Placement office, the English department, and the Foundations/Learning Skills program.  Mrs. Whitwell is an avid boater and enjoys reading, cooking, going to the movies, being at the beach, and spending time with her husband and daughter.

 
 
    Tobi Ragon  
     

Tobi has been in the counseling field since 2000. She earned an undergraduate degree in Religion and Philosophy from Flagler College in St. Augustine, Florida in 2002.  After moving to Wilmington in 2003, she attended East Carolina University where she became a licensed school counselor and earned a master's in Educational Counseling in 2007.   Tobi is originally from northern Kentucky and attended the University of Kentucky for two years before moving south.

Most recently Tobi worked at Pender High School in Burgaw, NC for 5 years.  She and her husband, Patrick live in Wilmington and are the parents of two young children, Maddox (2 1/2 years) and Reese (2 months).  She enjoys exercise, travel, the beach, University of Kentucky basketball, and Panthers/Bengals football.
