The Lower School After School Program

The After School Program (ASP) is designed for our students from Pre-Kindergarten through fifth grade.

The goals for this program include:
1.   to provide a warm, nurturing environment consistent with the philosophy and mission of Cape Fear Academy;
2.   to provide a variety of child-centered, non-academic activities, which include free play, small group activities, and rest time.

The ASP is not designed to be a continuation of our academic program.  We feel that our students benefit from sufficient academic structure during the regular school day.  Instead, the students will have opportunities for additional supervised recreational activities that will vary in nature, fulfilling their developmental needs.

The ASP for Pre-Kindergarten students includes lunchtime (lunch may be sent by parents or lunch credit may be purchased), outdoor play, and a rest period.  In addition, there are small group activities daily (art projects, organized games, creative dramatics, stories, movies, music) and field trips.  The expense of field trips will be included in the fees.

The students in Kindergarten through grade five come to the ASP at 2:45 p.m.  A snack is provided, followed by outside play, games, and free time.  A supervised homework time is also scheduled.

Our teacher-student ratio is approximately 1:12.  Our enrollment is limited in accordance with North Carolina Child Care regulations.
