Admission Procedure
1. Complete an Application for Admission by downloading the Admission Application here or by completing the Online Application. Return the completed application and $75.00 application fee to the Admission Office. Families applying for financial aid may pay a reduced fee of $35.00.
2. Set an appointment for a tour of school, if this has not already occurred. The student applicant may accompany the parent.
After January 1 of the Year of Enrollment:
3. Schedule a testing session for the applicant. The Admission Office will automatically make contact with applicants for this purpose if the application is already on file.
4. The Authorization for the Release of Student Records Form should be submitted by the parent to the child's present school. This form is available here, in the application booklet, or from the Admissions Office. The Release of Permanent Records Form allows Cape Fear Academy to receive report cards, previous testing results, and/or transcripts from the applicant's present school. Applicants for Pre-Kindergarten, Kindergarten, or First Grade do not need to submit this Authorization Form.
5. The Teacher Recommendation form (2) should be completed by two teachers, one teacher who has worked with the applicant during the current school year and one teacher who has worked with the applicant in the last two years. These forms should be returned directly by the teacher to Cape Fear Academy. Also if the applicant is a Pre-Kindergarten, Kindergarten, or First Grade student, only one teacher recommendation form is necessary.
An applicant's file is complete and ready for review by the Admission Committee when these items have been returned to the Admission Office and the testing has been completed.
All applications for admission are reviewed by the Admission Committee, which makes recommendations regarding enrollment to the Headmaster. The Admission Committee considers the following when making admission decisions:
- The applicant's ability to contribute to and benefit from our educational community and a college preparatory setting.
- How the applicant compares to others applying for admission and to the present members of the class.
- Evidence of cooperation and support by the parent(s).
- The results of the testing, the applicant's previous school achievement, and teacher recommendations which help us evaluate the candidate's potential for academic success at our school.
Using the above criteria, the Admission Committee makes one of three recommendations:
- Immediate Acceptance
- Waiting Pool
- Denial
Final decisions to admit or not to admit are made by the Headmaster in his sole discretion and are not subject to review.
