Music

Music is an integral aspect of Cape Fear Academy's award-winning Arts program. Music classes start as early as Prekindergarten and continues to be offered until twelfth grade.  The lower school music program introduces the fundamental and beginning concepts of music through many resources.  Students as early as Prekindergarten are introduced to concepts such as how sound is created and the introduction of notes, tone, rhythm, pitch, and more.  All lower school students are able to experience music through singing, movement, dancing, instrument playing, improvisation through voice and instruments, drama, and creative writing of music.  All lower school students participate in a large yearly production called “Grandparents’ Day” in which we honor the grandparents and families for their contributions in making CFA such an excellent learning facility and community.  This production involves students learning a large musical repertoire, typically in the realm of a specific theme. The students also learn light choreography and speaking lines. In the 4th grade, students learn to play the recorders.  In 5th grade, students get a chance to learn about the guitar and learn to play chords and songs.  Each year, students in 3rd through 5th grades are able to participate in a “Talent Show” held during school and performed in front of peers.

In Middle School and Upper School, students may continue their music interests with curricular options in Instrumental Music (Band) and Vocal/Choral Music, as well as Musical Theater.
