CFA Student Magazine Celebrates National Recognition

Cape Fear Academy’s High Tide Literary and Arts Magazine has been selected to receive the rank of EXCELLENT by the National Council of Teachers of
English (NCTE).

This year, schools in 46 states and five countries nominated 422 student magazines. Magazines from middle school, high school, and higher education were welcomed for the 2024 contest. Submissions are evaluated with rigorous criteria in the areas of Literary Quality, Variety of Genre, Variety of Voice, Artistic Quality, Graphic Design and Layout, Editing/Proofreading, and Editorial Vision.

The 2024 High Tide staff was led by co-editors in chief Audrey Sherman (Class of 2025) and Katie Hayes O’Donovan (Class of 2026) and a group of hard working and creative student staff members. The group was supported by faculty advisers Emily Fancy and Amanda Holliday.

The REALM program publicly recognizes excellent literary magazines produced by students with the support of their teachers. REALM is designed to encourage all schools to develop literary magazines that celebrate the art and craft of writing. Schools in all 50 states, the District of Columbia, US territories, Canada, and American schools abroad are eligible to nominate magazines.
