Cape Fear Academy Band Students Make Strong Showing at Regional Competition
Twelve CFA Upper School band students auditioned for the highly competitive All District Band on Saturday in Clinton, NC. From these, the following were chosen as
Upper School All District Band Members 2016:
Rebecca Holden, flute
Cecilia DeMoss, flute
Jordan Caplanson-Torrens, clarinet
Cam Kellogg, alto sax
Thomas Smith, trombone (1st overall!)
August Mills, baritone
Lee Jackson, snare/percussion
Michael Meeks, mallet percussion
These eight students and CFA Band Director, Ms. Rebecca Best, will attend the High School All District Band Clinic Jan 29-30 at UNC-Pembroke.
Also notable: George Austria, while not selected, was third overall in mallet percussion/1st alternate.
Out of the eight, these four students qualified in the very TOP few chairs of their instruments and are now NC All State Band eligible for auditions March 5.
Rebecca Holden
Cam Kellogg
Thomas Smith
Michael Meeks
The competition is fierce and very few are selected out of a large number of public and private school band students auditioning. Students must prepare 7+ major scales-arpeggios from memory, polish an assigned solo which is often a Concerto by the likes of Mozart, and sight-read music specifically composed for this event to test their music reading skill with only 45 seconds of review.
