Gabriella de Souza

A native Wilmingtonian, Gabriella graduated from UNCW with a B.S. in Biology and a B.S. in Environmental Sciences. She obtained industry experience by working in the microbiology department at Alcami, a pharmaceutical manufacturing and development corporation in Wilmington, NC. Gabriella previously taught as a “Principles of Biodiversity” laboratory instructor for three years at UNC Wilmington. She has also obtained her Master of Science in Biology from UNC Wilmington. Her master’s thesis focuses on cacao agroforestry and factors that influence cacao plant health in Southern Belize. Her goal as an educator is to share her passion for science with her students by taking the complexities of science and technology and transforming them into digestible material. Gabriella’s teaching philosophy is based on critical thinking and understanding the way you think, also known as metacognition.

In her free time, she is an active volunteer for the City of Wilmington and New Hanover County. She serves as the secretary for the NHC Cooperative Extension Advisory Council, the City of Wilmington Parks and Recreation Advisory Council, and the NHC Parks Conservancy Board of Directors.
