First Graders Visit Beach Bagels as Part of Ocean Plastic Project

After spending a good portion of the year studying the effects of pollution on our oceans, our first grade class reached out to area businesses to encourage them to join the ever growing list of Ocean Friendly Establishments. This initiative, as part of an effort to reduce plastic pollution, recognizes local restaurants that have agreed to serve plastic straws to customers only upon request.

Our first graders visited local restaurant Beach Bagels in early May after they agreed to “skip the straw”, to discuss how the students’ research and outreach has helped to create change in their community.

The Wilmington Business Journal joined in during the visit, and published a captivating article about our students and Beach Bagels. You can read the article here, and check out the full Ocean Pollution Solution study from our bright first graders!
