The research project of a group of our middle school girls was recently published in the February edition of Wrightsville Beach Magazine. The article, “Port City POWs,” was written by Katie Meine, Aurelia Colvin, Ella Forkin, and Audrey Dahl and details the history of Wilmington’s World War II Prisoner of War Camps.

With the help of WWII historian Wilbur D. Jones, Jr., the New Hanover County Library’s North Carolina Room archives, and CFA social studies teacher Nathan Gergel, the students were able to complete their research. With that research, they wrote the article that appears in Wrightsville Beach Magazine and created a narrative, filmed documentary that won a National History Day award in 2018.
