Our 17 Cape Fear Academy National History Day Students who qualified their history projects for the state competition really made us proud today at the State National History Day Competition. Many schools from all over North Carolina participated in this contest. For the first time in the history of the school, two teams of four students qualified for the National Competition June 9-13 in Washington, DC by taking FIRST PLACE in two categories, Senior Group Exhibit and Senior Group Website. The Senior Group Exhibit Team also won the North Carolina State History Special Award. These achievements are a very rare honor and are a testimony to the efforts these students put in to research and construct their projects and participate in a highly competitive competition.
Here are the State First Place Winners and National Qualifying teams:
Senior Group Exhibit: Loray Mill Strike-1st Place
***New Hanover Lyceum took second place.
**CFA Team also won special NC History Award
Senior Group Website: The Celluloid Revolution; Wilmington and the Making of Hollywood East-1st Place
Our special thanks to all of the National History Day Students listed below, as they all qualified at regionals for the state competition this year. We would also like to thank Dr. Berger for attending the state competition in Raleigh today. We thank all of the parents who supported these students and projects, as well as the teachers and administrators who helped these students succeed.
We’ve attached some photos of the students with their medals. Some students are not in these photos because they had to leave before the Awards Ceremony.
