Two standout Cape Fear Academy basketball players signed their collegiate National Letters of Intent on Monday, Jan. 6, inside the Cape Fear Academy Athletic Center.
Senior Chloe Kernan, Class of 2020, signed to play basketball for Washington University in St. Louis, a NCAA Division III school that is a member of the University Athletic Association conference. The Washington University women’s basketball program has won the UAA title 5 out of the last 6 years and last year finishing ranked No. 10 in the nation (ranked 10th or higher 4 out of the last 5 years).
Chloe is the most decorated basketball player (male or female) to play at Cape Fear Academy, including scoring over 2,000 points — the most in CFA history. Chloe is a two time NCISAA All-State and first team all-area performer for Cape Fear Academy. She helped lead CFA in 2018 to the most wins in school history and an NCISAA Final Four appearance. She has been named all-conference 5 times, while being named the Conference Player of the Year and Conference Tournament MVP twice.
One of CFA’s international students, senior Georges Lefebvre, Class of 2020, signed to play basketball at the University of Vermont, a NCAA Division I school that is a member of the America East Conference. Georges fell in love with the school and the energy on the campus as well as Vermont opening a $95 million athletic center in 2021. The school is located in Burlington, VT which is a two hour drive from George’s hometown of Montreal.
While at CFA, Georges is a two time all-conference and all-area selection, has helped the Hurricanes to a NCISAA Quarterfinal appearance two years ago, and last year to a NCISAA Final Four Appearance and the most wins in school history (27), along with an exciting Conference Tournament Championship win over state champion Fayetteville Academy.
